Right off the bat I had some big problems with this article.
For example, the poor, retired plumber would think nothing of driving 400 miles round trip to buy food but can't manage to squeeze $2.99 into his budget for his favorite cheesy crackers.
Huh?
The article is full of this stuff, and is easy to pick apart.
I just had to pull out my road atlas. Pittsburgh, NH may be out in the middle of nowhere, but it's not any 200 miles to the nearest sizeable town. Berlin, New Hampshire, and Sherbrooke, Ontario are about 50 miles away. Which makes me wonder why he thinks nothing of driving 200 miles.
I could go on, but then there's the premise that the big grocery chains are somehow responsible for all of this.
Um...I'm guessing that Pittsburgh, New Hampshire has never had a chain grocery store around to kill off the mom and pop. I'm not sure what chain grocery stores have to do with Pittsburgh, New Hampshire, except that it appears the area needs one but probably doesn't have the population to support such a business.
